Kora is a design and research practice based in Hyderabad, working at the grassroots level across India for over two decades.

We work with communities, craftspeople, farmers, organisations and institutions to understand local resources, strengthen human skills and explore practical ways of improving livelihoods and everyday life. Our work brings together design, research, documentation, training, technical support and cluster development.

We focus on decentralised systems that make thoughtful use of local materials and knowledge, and that can function with relatively little capital and energy. We do not see design simply as the creation of new products. We see it as a way to understand what exists, identify what is missing, connect what has become separated and support what can evolve.

Our work is never a finished formula. Each place, material and community asks something different of us. We continue to learn, question and improve through the people and practices we work alongside.
